My Coat of Many Colors, 2026, series is about the love and realness that is found in something handmade.

Inspired in part by Dolly’s Parton’s childhood (and my own 9 year old who has been constantly singing the song of the same title).

The original song by Dolly was written about her childhood experience where her family couldn’t afford a new coat.  In comes Dolly’s mother who sewed one from scraps of fabric. As she worked, she told Dolly the biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, (also a story that is very dear to my heart from my own upbringing) making the patchwork feel special. Handmade.

Dolly wore it to school proudly, only to have the other children laugh at it. I can’t help but be reminded of times when others have laughed at me.  Of times that others have laughed at my own children.  Of what amazing moments for learning and growth these times are. The song lyrics follow a movement from pride to hurt, and then to Dolly’s insistence that the love sewn into her coat made it precious to her. She felt the love that her mother created it with. She trusted her mother instead of trusting the voices around her. She learned to trust herself.

Precious. Let these pieces remind you of this story. Soak them in. Feel their warmth. Available now on my website.
